Are we living for a paycheck or are we living for eternity? People worry what will happen if one day the paycheck stops. The paycheck for life may alleviate our fears and anxieties. Sadly, the paycheck for life may not free us from worrying. Human beings have the tendency to worry about everything. The October sermon series is
"PAYCHECK: Living For The Moment or For Eternity?" Jesus said, "Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?" (Matthew 6:25). Really? How shall we live then? Jesus said, unequivocally, to seek first God's Kingdom and His righteousness and the rest will follow. Let us examine how Jesus lived in the light of "How shall we live then?"
Heaven In Homelessness
Jesus left Heaven and His throne and became homeless. "And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn (Luke 2:7). He did not rebel against God and complain about His homelessness.
"Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head." (Matthew 8:20).
Jesus said, "Follow me." We cannot go wrong following Jesus. Trust in His promises.
Riches In Rags
Jesus was without selfish ambition. He came in the form of a bond-servant, a man of no reputation. Jesus was in the form of God and He is God, yet He did not consider himself equal to God.
We marvel at the human story from rags to riches, but scorn the One who came to live a life from riches to rags. Jesus is the epitome of riches in rags.
"The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly" (John 10:10).
Jesus said, "Blessed are the poor in spirit." This is the way to inherit heaven. Trust in His resources.
Prosperity In Poverty
Jesus experienced abundant life in physical poverty. We can experience abundant life just like Jesus in our present life. The abundant life is not dictated by the amount of wealth we possess or the size of our bank accounts. We can easily lose our soul in pursuit of wealth and prosperity.
"For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul" (Mark 8:36).
Jesus said, "Abide in me and my words and you will bear much fruit." Do you want to bear fruit? Trust in His Word.
Hope In Hunger
Jesus experienced hunger. He saw people who were hungry and had compassion on them. The compassion Jesus showed was not merely to fill their bellies, but to give them hope because they were lost.
"I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat" (Mark 8:2).
Jesus said, "Blessed are those who hunger." Be hungry for the right thing. Trust in His blessings.
