Sri Lanka Attacks: Children of the Easter Sunday Carnage: "One week ago many dozens of children were killed in Sri Lanka's Easter Sunday attacks. Dressed in their finest clothes for one of the most important church services of the year, this was the first generation in decades to grow up free of violence. Their stories—and the struggle for the surviving children to comprehend the carnage—take the island down a devastatingly familiar path." (By Ayeshea Perera, BBC News, Sri Lanka, 28 April)
It was raining eggs and chicks on Easter Sunday! It was heartwarming to see over 100 joyful kids running on the church playground. Almost half of the children who participated in the Easter eggs hunts were not Christians. It made me think about the Sunday School children killed in Sri Lanka. Christians killed in a church. Muslims killed in a mosque. Jews killed in a synagogue. All in the name of religion. If we could just get along, come together and leave a sacred space for the goodness it produces. In the midst of hate, death, and pain, the children on the playground gave me—and give me—hope. Let love conquer evil.
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 19:14)
