Summer Reading
Whew! Summer is right around the corner.
I just finished reading Julie, by Catherine Marshall, and I am amazed at how relevant the book is today, even though it was written in the early '80s, and its story is set in the mid-1930s. Julie is a "coming of age" book for a teenage girl, who learns how to apply her skills and talents to help her family and her community in their time of need. I couldn't put the book down, and that's the perfect receipt for summer reading.
Actually, I came upon Julie while our SCFBC "Library Team" was evaluating books to remove from the library's collection, which is never an easy task. My first thought was, "Right! Julie is a book we want to keep!" Christy, Catherine Marshall's first novel, is also in the SCFBC Library. Non-fiction books by Catherine Marshall that are also available for check out include: Beyond Our Selves; Catherine Marshall's Story Bible; Light in My Darkest Night; Meeting God at Every Turn—A Personal Family Story; and Something More. All of these books are currently in the collection and available to borrow right away.
The library has a collection of over 4,000 books and DVDs for all ages, and it will be open on Sundays this summer—after church and during the Sunday Grill. You can also visit the library during the week by checking with Trudy in the office between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday. She'll be glad to open the library for you.
Oh, and please encourage your families to become engaged in enjoying the great Christian reading materials that are available right here at church this summer.
