Mission Moment
This month we will be learning about the work of Ketley and Vital Pierre, American Baptist Global Servants, who are ministering in evangelism, discipleship, and planting churches in the Dominican Republic.
Ketley and Vital work on the east coast of the Dominican Republic, strengthening local churches, encouraging existing churches to establish new ones, and discipling new members. They do this by leading and coordinating seminars and workshops where pastors and leaders of local congregations learn how to start and strengthen a broad range of outreach ministries in their communities. The Pierres also serve as a link with volunteer groups, matching them with local ministries according to where they will be the most effective, They also encourage and facilitate Haitian mission work both within the Dominican Republic and abroad.
They write, “We are witnessing a miracle of unity and new life in the Alliance of Baptist Churches here in the Dominican Republic. Through the support of so many, we have been able to build a vital community center. This center has become a literal and figurative symbol of togetherness. The churches here are experiencing this unity as they come together for training and education. The Community Center (Centro Comunitario) has become a central, life-giving place for all of the churches, where anyone can receive training, hold meetings, get legal help and guidance, and serve the community at large. And, the Alliance of Baptist Churches is finding strength in this unity. Adults and adolescents also get to know each other through the various ministry training's provided.
