ReTREAT and ReNEW
The leadership retreat focused on Three main things—Unmistakable Camaraderie, Vision, and Divine Focus. We held three sessions to address these topics.
Unmistakable Camaraderie
The purpose of this session was to build a healthy team culture. Pastor Rich, who led this session, said it is "Always great to have a leadership retreat to gather together away from the church to get to know each other better (camaraderie) and hone in on our Vision and need for Focus." That's what we did.
Vision
In this session, we asked: Can you clearly define your vision? Why do you exist and why does your ministry exist? The leadership team revisited the vision and mission of the church. Pastor Wung Valui challenged the leaders whether they have their own personal vision statement. If a leader does not have a personal vision, it is unlikely that he or she will focus on the vision of the church.
Jon Hammar, the president of the Board, said, "I was able to make a personal vision statement regarding my focus. This was new and good for me. I was inspired to also write a prayer for myself, so this was great as the prayer came to me in a flow during our last prayer. The Spirit was there!"
Many of the leaders came away with the need to pray and work on personal vision.
Divine Focus
What is essential? Pastor Margareth Valui organized this event, and she also led the session on the Divine Focus. She bought and made all the leaders read the book Lead Like It Matters by Groeschel. She reminded the leaders that most churches add and add and add ministries. Maybe it’s time for us to prune the vine.
Joel Robinson, the former Board President, said, "Once we have agreed on our Vision and Divine Focus, we need to take a look at our systems. I look forward to further discussions on vision, divine focus, and systems."
The session in a nutshell was about, What few ministries are necessary to fulfill your vision? If you could do only a few things for the greatest ministry return, what things would you do?
