Daniel 6:23

Daniel 6:23 (NKJV) - "Now the king was exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no injury whatsoever was found on him, because he believed in his God."

Introduction to the Theme:

Daniel's unwavering faithfulness to God led to jealousy among the other officials, who devised a scheme to throw him into the lion's den. They convinced King Darius to issue a decree forbidding prayer to any god or man other than the king, knowing Daniel would not comply.

"Now, when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days." (Daniel 6:10 NKJV)

Adversities Faced by Daniel

  • 1. Taken as Prisoner to Babylon
"In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it." (Daniel 1:1)
  • 2. Training in the King's Court
"Then the king instructed Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, to bring some of the children of Israel and some of the king's descendants and some of the nobles, young men in whom there was no blemish, but good-looking, gifted in all wisdom, possessing knowledge and quick to understand, who had ability to serve in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the language and literature of the Chaldeans." (Daniel 1:3-4).
  • 3. Defile Himself or Not with the King's Food
"But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself." (Daniel 1:8)
  • 4. Interpret Nebuchadnezzar's Dreams Or Be Executed
"Then the king gave the command to call the magicians, the astrologers, the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans to tell the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king." (Daniel 2:2)
  • 5. Jealous Satraps Conspired Against Him
"So the governors and satraps sought to find some charge against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find no charge or fault, because he was faithful; nor was there any error or fault found in him." (Daniel 6:4)
  • 6. Thrown into the Lions' Den
"So the king gave the command, and they brought Daniel and cast him into the den of lions. But the king spoke, saying to Daniel, 'Your God, whom you serve continually, He will deliver you.'" (Daniel 6:16 NKJV)

Application Question

Reflecting on the adversities faced by Daniel and how God protected and blessed him, consider this: What challenges or adversities are you currently facing, and how can you trust in God's protection and faithfulness to see you through them?
