Hope Series
Joshua
Embracing Strength and Courage Through God's Presence
Sunday August 25, 2024 - Pastor Wungreiso Valui
Joshua 1:9-11

Joshua 1:9-11 (NKJV): "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. "Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying, "Pass through the camp and command the people, saying, 'Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within three days you will cross over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which the Lord your God is giving you to possess."

Life is full of ups and downs, but in struggles, we must hold on to the hope that anchors us (Hebrews 6:19). Like Joshua, who faced incredible challenges yet trusted God's plan and celebrated each victory, we too can find purpose and hope.

Celebrating Victory after Crossing the Jordan: Setting up twelve stones as a memorial.

Joshua 4:20-22 (NKJV): "And those twelve stones which they took out of the Jordan, Joshua set up in Gilgal. Then he spoke to the children of Israel, saying: 'When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, "What are these stones?" then you shall let your children know, saying, "Israel crossed over this Jordan on dry land.'"

Celebrating Victory over Jericho

Joshua 6:20 (NKJV): "So the people shouted when the priests blew the trumpets. And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat."

Celebrating with Obedience and Covenant Renewal at Mount Ebal:

Joshua 8:34 (NKJV): "And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessings and the cursings, according to all that is written in the Book of the Law."

Joshua's Declaration of Serving the Lord:

Joshua 24:15 (NKJV): "And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve... But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."

We are celebrating GOD now, here, today: Psalm 118:24 (NKJV):

"This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it. Living in the present means seeing God's work in the "here and now," responding joyfully, and celebrating today's gift.

Question for Reflection:

  1. In what areas of your life can you celebrate God's faithfulness, just as Joshua did after victories and moments of renewal?

Application:

  1. Take time this week to reflect on the "victories" God has brought you through, whether big or small. Consider setting up a personal "memorial" (such as writing in a journal, sharing a meal with families and friends, or creating a small symbol) to remind yourself of God's provision and faithfulness.
