Who's Your One?
House of Prayer for all Nations
Sunday September 8, 2024 - Pastor Wungreiso Valui
Luke 15:4
Scripture Reflection: Jesus pursued lost individuals outside of Israel, highlighting His heart for inclusivity and salvation for all nations.
- 1. In the parable of the lost sheep (Luke 15:4), "What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?"
- 2. In Mark 11:17, Jesus says, "Is it not written: 'My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations'? But you have made it a den of thieves."
Old Testament References: Jesus quotes two passages:
- 1. Isaiah 56:7: "My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations," affirming the temple's purpose for worship by all people.
- 2. Jeremiah 7:11: "But you have made it a den of thieves,"
Paul's Approach:
The Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:22, "To the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
Empowerment by the Holy Spirit:
This power is given to reach the ONE
Acts 1:8 (NKJV) reminds us, "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
Why ONE initiative?
Because heaven rejoices when one soul is saved.
"I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance." (Luke 15:7, NKJV).
What Kind of JOY:
"Whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory." (1 Peter 1:8, NKJV).
Question:
How can we make our homes, churches, and hearts "houses of prayer for all nations."
Application:
- 1. This week, pray and write down the ONE you want to reach out to just as Jesus left the 99 and pursued the ONE.
- 2. Pray for someone from a different background, culture, or belief system. Reflect on how you can make space in your life to be welcoming and inclusive, just as Jesus made His house a place of prayer for all nations.
